3-dimensional bases are much more difficult to wax than flat base snowboards and skis, so Phantom Glide Powsurf Base Treatment offers a permanent solution. With one treatment of Phantom Glide your powsurfer will glide for the life of your board. Bases can also be waxed after the Phantom Glide treatment is complete for an even faster ride and as wax wears off your board will still glide well, and much better than not having the Phantom at all.
PHANTOM Glide is not wax. PHANTOM Glide Powsurf Base Treatment differs from traditional wax because wax is not permanent. Wax is a temporary glide solution that functions only by coating the top layer of your base. After just a few runs, traditional wax wears off and glide performance diminishes. With Phantom Glide you will have improved glide accross all snow conditions for the life of your powsurfer, skis or snowboard.
PHANTOM Glide’s patented monomer technology penetrates deep and enhances the natural properties of the actual base material. PHANTOM Glide not only improves the glide performance of raw polyethylene, but it also improves the bonding of wax, making wax last longer than ever before. So you can choose to never wax your powsurfer again and you will have good and consistent glide. To refresh that glide, use a scotch pad to clean the base and this allows PHANTOM Glide to best do it’s job. You can also choose to use wax atop PHANTOM Glide at any time for an even better glide.

Expectation vs Reality of PHANTOM Glide
Expectation:
“Purchasing PHANTOM will give me peak glide performance forever, in every condition.”
Reality:
Wax is a phase change material meaning it gets softer in warm temps, and harder in cold temperatures. The performance of wax at certain temps is denoted by its ability to change within those temperatures. PHANTOM Glide is not affected by temperature in this way, allowing it to provide more consistent glide across a wider range of temperatures.
Expectation:
“PHANTOM is a permanent wax.”
Reality:
PHANTOM Glide is not wax. It’s a permanent base treatment that can be used in conjunction with wax, but is scientifically very different from wax. PHANTOM is applied as a liquid that absorbs into the base material and UV light is then used to create a permanent bond.
Wax functions as a temporary coating of the top layer of the base and wears off after a few runs of skiing or snowboarding.
Expectation:
“PHANTOM isn’t making my bases look fast or shiny.”
Reality:
Applying hot wax might set high expectations for what a base can look like. Wax operates as a base polish, ultimately making the base shine once it’s scraped off and brushed. PHANTOM Glide is not a base polish. It soaks into the entire base, and does not alter the way the base looks after it’s applied.
PHANTOM also does not prevent base abrasion, which can occur from repeatedly skiing on hard or abrasive snow, and can cause bases to look dry. To keep your bases looking their best, you need to get them stone ground as often as necessary.
Expectation:
“I never need to tune or take care of my skis after PHANTOM is applied.”
Reality:
PHANTOM does not prevent the need to care for your skis. Even with PHANTOM applied, your edges will become dull, your bases will eventually become abraded, and your skis or snowboard will suffer from usual wear and tear. It’s always a good idea to take continuous care for your skis or snowboard. Find a good shop technician, or learn to care for your gear on your own.
Expectation
“I never need to wax again.”
Reality:
PHANTOM was launched as an environmentally friendly alternative to harmful flouro-carbon waxes. However, sometimes wax does help. There are now many environmentally friendly wax options, and it can be useful in certain temperature scenarios, such as extremely cold or warm temperatures to make bases faster. It can also be useful in a pinch to cover abrasion that is negatively affecting glide.
If there is nothing on your bases at all, a solution would be to run into a shop and get a hot wax to protect your bases prior to hitting the slopes. Additionally, if you are concerned about the highest base performance possible, you can also use a temperature specific wax in addition to PHANTOM in order to get the fastest possible glide.
Remember that getting the wax perfect for the conditions is a tricky situation, so if you are in doubt, skip the wax, buff out your PHANTOM bases with a polishing pad, and hit the hill.
