Drift Boards – Approach Skis

A powsurfer’s best friend for long tours and travel on skintracks and fairly deep snow. Drift boards combine elements of snowshoes and touring skis skis to create a lightweight and efficient way to move through snow. Handmade in Utah from carbon fiber and CNC aluminum, Drift boards are smaller, lighter, and more agile than skis while being faster and more efficient than snowshoes. Like a snowshoe, Drift boards are wide enough to stay atop the snow. Unlike snowshoes, Drift boards are able to slide forward on the snow like a ski. Permanent climbing skins on the bottom of the boards allow them to glide forward on the snow while maintaining grip while climbing. The patented Drift boards work with any type of soft boot and weigh only 5 pounds (6lbs for Oxygen Model). Drift boards fit in most backcountry skin tracks and are excellent at breaking trail in deep powder. Drift boards are ideal for anyone who wants to move efficiently through snow, but they are uniquely suited to backcountry snowboarders, allowing them to climb with the weight of their board on their back instead of on your feet.

VARIATIONS:

Beyond the Classic Carbon Drift Boards we offer the option of  MOHAIR SKINS– These glide easier to save energy on long approaches but may not have as good of grip on steeper ascents.  We also offer the CASCADE version, which are slightly more narrow than the classic Drift Boards. These are ideal for coastal snowpacks where you don’t need as much “float” for blazing trails in fresh snow. They also fit better in established skin tracks.  The OXYGEN Drift boards are less expensive, but weigh a bit more than the classic Carbon Drift Boards.
