The Powsurf Chronicles Episode 8 – Surf the Sawtooths
Surf the Sawtooths! Powsurfing in Idaho’s Sawtooth range with a super fun crew of powsurf and snowskate legends. The Grassroots Powsurf crew arrived to a beautiful cabin the our friend Mark had lined up. No time wasted as the boys had alread built a hip jump outside the cabin.. so we grabbed our snowskates and heated up the night.
Waking up to 8″ of pow put the hustle in our step and we motored up the road to seek out a playground to hike. With the help of our Mtn Approach Skis, verts and snowshoes we sessioned a beautiful burnt forest. Sliding rainbow trees and weaving through the burn. Powsurfing in relatively mellow terrain becomes a lot of fun and quite challenging when you are in what was once a thick pine forest. This terrain would likely not have been rideable at all had it not been for a forrest fire that ripped through a few years prior. What remained were tighty spaced, charred toothpicks that made for a hell of a powsurf slalom course!
Day two we woke up to sunny skies and that really opened up the possibilities. We sought out some very technical pillow lines especially due to the rotten and faceted snowpack and the tight burnt trees. Powsurfing the Sawtooths turned out to be much different than we had anticipated, but it did NOT dissapoint!
