Powsurf Crew with Blair Conklin

The Grassroots Powsurf crew takes legendary professional skimboarder Blair Conklin out for a couple of days of powsurfing!

Blair showed to what was by far the deepest day of the entire 2025 season. A day that we wouldn’t normally go out on snowmobiles.. especially with a couple of guys who had never driven sleds before. In fact, we were literally the only people out in the backcountry that day.. we had powsurf paradise all to our selves.. we just had to work our tails off for it. Blair had flown in and our our videographer had made the voyage as well so we went for it!

3 inches in the parking lot.. 3 feet at the top!

Trailbreaking in 3 ft of new snow and a blizzard is no easy task even for seasoned veterans and adding two noobs to the mix made things a LOT more difficult. But Blair is a talented guy and he learned fast (often times the hard way). With a lot of digging and serious trial blazing and grooming we got the crew to perhaps the only zone that could be ridden in such a big storm.

We had a big ol quiver of powsurfers, mostly big guns as we knew were were in for a real deep day that was only going to get deeper as we rode. The 166cm Slasher Malibu saw plenty of action as did the 150cm Big Phish and 150cm Flying Carpet “Wide”. Each time Blair Conklin would grab a powsurfer and take a run.. that board became his favorite! So I kept dealing hiim different boards from the quiver so he could taste some more flavors and just as I suspected, his favorite board at the end of the day was the 150cm Big Phishh! Blair adapted extremely well using his skimboard skills and his natural ability to excel at anything he does.

Conditions were all time.. super deep snow.. perhaps a bit too deep at times (it felt like slow motion cloud surfing at times) but powdersurfing when it’s dumping over 3 inches an hour is something we REALLY enjoy! So we rode all day long and into the night. We put in 12 solid hours on the mountain and we were in a blissful but beat down state by the time we made it to dinner at our favorite Indian Restaraunt.
