Grassroots Powsurf creator Jeremy Jensen chats with the boys at Dark Starts Backcountry Splitboarding Podcast about the origins of splitsurfing and powsurfing and how splitboarding, snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding led him on the path he’s been on for the past 13 years with Grassroots Powdersurfing.
The crew dives into Jeremy’s early beginnings in snowboarding and his early influences from a skateboarding background. His early infatuation with powder snow and love for riding in the backcountry and how that led to early binding-free experiments and eventually to the earliest handcrafted builds that gave birth to what we know as “powsurfing” today.
Brief talks on the shaping process and how R&D was everything. Learning mostly what NOT to do from snowboard construction and design while the most valuable lessons came from shaping and re-shaping their own “Grassroots Powdersurfing” designs from scratch.
Jeremy talks about why he created the first ever splitsurfers within the first year of making solid powsurfers and the early challenges and puzzles that needed to be solved to refine his earliest builds. They talk vampires in the industry that leached from his creations and the inner struggle that is created when the biggest snow companies on earth come to rip the little guy off and sooo much more.
This podcast is definitely worth a listen if you are intersted in the begginings of powsurfing and the passion poured into the early days of Grassroots Powsurf.
Massive thank you to Darrin and Chad (Rest In Peace) for including powsurfing and thinking of us!
